It is time which gives us the meaning of our lives

I love the duality of this quote. For me it is supposed to ‘not mean’, ‘rather explain’.
Meaning has perplexed many a soul, and the understanding is that meaning to another could be sought in the values another has about it. What then is meaningful to another?
Does it mean understanding of life and one’s place in it? If so – meaning would imply gaining wisdom over an extended period of time, and therefore may regard that self as wise
(because of the time and effort that was spent on creating that wisdom)
Or
The quote argues that we can only understand meaning subject to the time that has elapsed. It could propose that value lies in the worth of time itself.
That meaning is thus the concept of time itself.
